I'm have an extremely difficult time making any type of decisions for the wedding. I don't have the colors picked out, I don't have a dress, I dont have a florist, I don't have transportation, brides maids dresses, tuxes, or a cake. I havent started a guest list, nor have I looked into invitations, anything for the rehearsal dinner, or the menu for the rehearsal dinner or reception. Come to think of it, I dont even know where the rehearsal dinner is going to be. Oh, and since my grandfather is marrying us on the shore of lake superior and its going to be a very non-traditional thing, I dont even have a wedding ceremony - kinda need to work on that one soon I guess.
I've looked at bridal magazines, websites, and talked to people. I just can't decide. I feel like I should choose my colors and have a vision before jumping into anything. But here what I'm thinking:
For colors I'm thinking:
~Brown and Pink (Black tuxes with Chocolate Bown vests or all Brown tuxes and Pink ties with Pink bridesmaids dresses)
~Brown and Blueish Teal, like a tiffanys box, same as above.
I am 95% sure that I want my dress to be tea length and very plain. I've tried on three dresses, and the long ones with trains make me feel 'fake' or like a cupcake. Plus, I just want to have fun and not worry about spilling on or holding some silly dress. My ideal dress will have little to no beading, sparkles, or lace.
For flowers, I think I want to do gerber daisys in bright colors like pink - cheap, simple, fun. And I do know that at the reception there will be big glass jars with silver scoops filled with bright colored candy in the center of each table. That way people can take what they want, will have a constant sugar buzz and will want to dance dance dance, and it'll serve as the table decorations.
I *think* I like this cake, but with Gerber daisys on it.
As you can see, I'm leaning towards bright fun colors and a very laid back wedding/reception. I'm not really into the elegant styles - its just not Josh and I. We just want people to have fun, and we want to have fun and not stress out, *or spend too much*!
Also, I need ideas for music for the wedding (I have a violinist playing for the ceremony) and my cousin is going to sing *something* maybe (but what??) Also I need a first dance song. Ugh!
Who's got ideas/feedback for me? :)

At first your blog was starting to stress me out, but towards the end it sounded like you know what you wanted, but aren't 100% positive and that is why you haven't confirmed plans. I like the brown and pink idea. I'm not sure I would put brown and black together since I've always thought you should wear one or the other. I would do what you want though. It is your day and likewise have never planned a wedding.
I have a thing about brown and black going together too - but apprently its the new 'in thing' and looks 'really hot' - I havent seen it myself though. Im a little skeptical too!
I wanted a plain dress and had a super hard time finding one. J Crew has really nice simple dresses.
My dress was very traditional and plain. But I am not sure where to find a tea length white dress....
As for colors, I like the brown and pink idea or the brown and teal. Both would look great. I am with Jericho though that I have a thing mixing brown and black together, but like you said...it is the new thing.
If you like country, there are great first dance songs. My first dance song was by Keith Urban, Making Memories of Us. I can't wait to see more pics of things you like and want for your wedding. When is the big day again?
I could talk for days on this subject! ;)
First of all you should never have brown tuxes at a wedding they look so 1960s prom and will make things look very cheap, not what you want. I have seen tons of pictures of black tuxes with the brown and pink and brown and tiffany themes and it still looks way classy.
Tea length dresses are making acome back, I saw a few when I was looking and with the heat at our wedding I almost wish I would have considered it. The shorter dress is very Audrey Hepburn.
FYI: gerber daisies are not cheap, my sister used them in her October wedding and they were almost as much as roses
I love the candy jar idea for centerpeices, that will cut down on costs because you won't need an additional favor and you won't be spending a million dollars on flowers.
As far as ceremonies go, how religious do you want it? we did our own ceremony but the sites we used we all pretty faith based, as was our ceremony, if that's not a problem I'll dig my stuff up.
Also you may need to get a move on, sometimes dresses can take over 6 months to come in and that stress sucks the life out of you!
My bridesmaid dresses came from ariadress.com and they can make any of the dresses in white or ecru silk, I think they would be really nice for a classy, fun, unclutered look.
As far as the tuxes - I'm not sold on the black with brown idea. I do agree that brown tuxes are very 1970's. At our wedding I didn't put the guys in color, they all work black tuxes with black ties and vests, J wore an ivory tie and vest, and it looked really good.
I love the candy idea!
I didn't put the guys in color, either. Black tuxes, black vests and ties. Eric wore a black vest and champagne colored tie. I kept my colors very monochromatic - ivory, pale pink, white, grey, taupe, etc. So I didn't really have "colors" - just a whole style that kind of blended together.
I think you should try j.crew or even ann taylor for a wedding dress.
good luck :)
I think I still have a few pics on http://www.hu.mtu.edu/~hrkental/wedding
Oh and talk to Erika Dahlquist, she had an outdoor wedding with gerber daisies and bright colors and it was so beautiful! My maid of honor dress was from aria, too (like alanna)
I love the idea of candy as the table centerpieces! I *loathe* brown with black - I grew up being told they don't go together (black and light brown is okay but dark brown is not) so I have a hard time getting behind that as well. Yeimy had chocolate brown and light blue as her colors - the groomsmen wore black tuxes with blue vests/ties/whatever and the girls wore brown dresses and carried blue flowers. It looked really nice (maybe because one of us wore brown and the other wore black - if the guys had both colors on I wouldn't have liked it as much)...
