Better than 'Here'

Do you ever have those days where everything that everybody else has somehow just looks better than what you've got? I'm having one of those days/weeks and the feelings are primarily centered around where we live. It just seems like so many people are doing exciting things in exciting cities and towns. Peoria isn't one of them - and Hallmark knows it.

Peoria is Dullsville, according to a greeting card that pokes fun at the River City. Peoria drabness and a lifeless body come together to grace a birthday card from Shoebox, a division of Hallmark. It's a cartoon parody of those endless "CSI" cop shows. The front of the card screams, "CSI: Peoria." A crime technician shoots photos of a prone gent who had keeled over. A David Caruso-like detective muses, "Looks like he was bored to death."

Its not that Peoria is 'bad', its just dull in a middle America sleepy way. And I feel jealous of everybody who is moving to places like New York or California, or Florida or Washington. And though I am sure that while from here they look wildly exciting, they become just as mundane as P-town to the people living there. Its not much of a consolation prize, though, and I think its going to continue to bum me out at least until this cold weather breaks.

You seem to be having more fun in Peoria than I did when I lived there, though! I seriously hated that city...

Everything takes adjusting. Growing up I hated Fremont sometimes, now that I live in D-town, I'd love to go back. Seriously, after church on Sunday, I cried on the way home because I miss it soooo much, but it is way boring. I like that around here there is any store, restaurant or specialty shop you can think of, but there is also a lot more crime.

Sometimes work just sucks the life out of you too. It happens to all of us. You'll learn coping mechanisms. Some of my faves are red wine, chocolate, and pizza. But reading or a good movie help too!

Cheer up, the sun will be back soon!

Hey! I even get that feeling sometimes in Chicago, like I have seen everything and want to move elsewhere.

Don't worry - We'll be there soon! I am actually really excited to be moving there. I am really excited for a little slower pace of life, no 72 minute commute (1 way!), etc. I am excited for summer there with the riverfront festivals and camping at state parks along the river.

I think that everywhere can be boring when it is just routine - get up, go to work, come home and repeat. We'll have to get together soon! Rob and I are looking for a month to month apartment to rent until our house sells here. We will be there ready to work on April 30th though!

Oh, and the house we like is in Metamora - I'll email you the MLS.
