Lets take a poll...
How many of you feel like your first job out of college was completly useless, and how many of you feel like it was a valuable experience?
Did it eventually get better, or did you learn to accept it?
My job is the pits and I'm seriously considering seeing my doctor about anti-depressants because of it. Before, I only felt depressed while I was at work. And I could deal with that. Lately, its been at work, when I think about work, the drive there, the drive home, whenever somebody mentions C@T...pretty much all the time. And I am on the verge of tears the entire time I am there. I think it warrants some chemical assistance.

I'm not entirely sure my opinion counts here, but I'll give it anyway. My first job out was part time for the same hospital/school I am at now. 6 months in I was offered the full time high school position and took it (obviously it's been my only job out of school) I love it, most of the time, but I'm in a totally different line of work than most people. I think about work all the time, Jay hears about it everyday. Sometimes it's positive, sometimes it's negative, it just depends on the season and the day. When I first switched from part time to full, I hated it and was convinced I made the worst decision of my life, now I wouldn't go back for anything....
Give it a little more time and try to leave work at work. I'm sure the stress of a wedding isn't helping you out at all either...
Hugs!
Stephie gives good advice!
But if it doesn't get better, then look around. Seriously, you should never dread going to work. That's the way I look at it. I like my job, I don't know if anybody LOVES to work, but I like to, so I'm good with that. But I tell myself, the day I wake up and dread my job is the day I'll quit. I've had bad days, I've had bad meetings, projects, etc, but never outright despised the entire thing. If you do despise your job, I think finding a new one warrants some consideration.
On the medication front, I switched from a normal antidepressant to a antidepressant that also helps with anxiety (Cymbalta). I was getting too worked up over little things and so my doctor thought that would help, and it did! What Stephie and AJ said is good advice, but it wouldn't hurt to take a depression test or see a therapist to help you find what you really want.
Or if you need a girls night out for a few drinks & venting, let me know! I'll be happy to accompany you :)
My first job out of school, I was literally a glorified overpaid secretary - I hated it. But... since I hated it, I was thrilled when I wasn't there. If you are bumming at home too - you should talk to your doctor and let htem tell you what to do about the meds, AND find a new job!!!
My first job out of school wasn't the best. The company was great, the people were great, but I was misearble with the location and also didn't like the work I was doing. I didn't find it meaningful. At my current employer, I really really like it. I would love it if I could work part time and spend more time with my kids than just late afternoons and weekends. It is challenging and I am very very busy. But they understand the importance of work/home life balance. So I work reasonable hours and know the work will be there in the morning.
If you aren't happy, start looking. I knew I wasn't happy within 6-months of my first job and I started looking. I finally got an offer from my current employer after a year and nine-months at my first job. It was worth the wait.
