A Lesson in Ethics

Today I received an express envelope that contained a wedding gift from on of my contacts at a specific air carrier that I worked closely with in my last position. It contained a $100 gift certificate to Bed Bath and Beyond with a note that read "Please accept my best wishes on your upcoming wedding and as you start this great life changing and fulfilling experience." Of course I knew that it would mostly likely be unethical to keep it, which my boss confirmed. I certainly want to do the ethical thing, I just wish that didn't involve sending it back! So, tonight I will be writing a very gracious thank you note and tomorrow morning it, along with the gift card will be on its way back to Miami. I suppose it feels good to 'do the right thing', but new fluffy towels would have felt really good.

Oh my god, how sweet... I'm sad you have to give it back.

Was the card signed from the person you worked with or the company?
If the person, that would be like inviting one of our co-workers to your wedding... I don't see what is unethical about accepting a gift in that situation.

I'm with Laura, it sounds like the group you worked with got together and gave you a nice gift. But if your gut is telling you different you should probably go with it (that's what Oprah would do).

Happy Wedding!!!!

pat on the back for you. I don't know what I would've done b/c I'm not sure it would have occurred to me that it maybe was unethical to keep it.
