Our Kitchen Choices

So, heres what we are thinking so far....I'd appreciate input!

The cabinets (maple) are this style:

But this color (cider):

We are going with a Corian solid countertop because we cant afford real stone. This color is *close* to what we chose:

Also, we are planning to put 12x12 travertine tiles on the floor, which will look like this:

We have a hard time visualizing things so were not sure. We decided to go lighter than originally planned, though, because our kitchen doesnt have a whole lot of natural light and we dont want it to be cave-like. Let me know your suggestions!

I really like those colors Katie... I think it will look better in your kitchen with the lighter colors. I am so excited to see how it turns out!!!

You're new kitchen will look like the one at our last house :) The counters will look great with the cabinets, and I think you'll be happier in the long run with a light cabinet.

My only suggestion is to go with a darker floor. I think it really helps to ground a room and pull it all together. Plus if you're going to have either black or ss appliances a darker floor will look better.

I agree with Alanna. Plus the darker tile and darker grout will hide more dirt.

I'm with Alanna on the dark floor. It will be something contrasting in the kitchen.

As far as Corian....I LOVE LOVE LOVE ours. We got it in Bethany, which is really similar to the color you've posted. I was nervous about light countertops and medium cabinets, but I really love it with our olive walls. It'd durable, easy to clean, and never looks drity. However, we found out after we ordered ours that granite would've been cheaper. Corian gets expensive! But it's worth it in my opinion, becuase I can see my children chipping a granite countertop and Corian is durable, plus comes with a warranty. Another bonus, because Corian is warrantied, it has to be installed by licensed Corian installers....one less step for you to do!

Ditto on the darker floor. The counter color and floor color are too similar I think. A darker floor will provide more contrast and hide dirt much better! :)

Just what I've heard from my neighbors (new construction). They despise having ceramic tile in the kitchen because things shatter when they get dropped.

Have you considered a softer floor such as hardwood or Pergo? You could do a pretty red birch type color stained a little darker for contrast.

I got advise to keep the main elements of a home neutral (cabinets, solid surface counter tops, wood floors) and spice things up with elements that can easily or cheaply be changed (rugs, door hardware, paint, carpet, etc.)

how fun. good luck!
