Lately I am feeling really anxious about the economy, the housing market, the job market, the price of gas, inflation, and on and on. I feel like everything in the news is so negative. I know Peoria is pretty stable, thanks to Cat, which is really propping up the local economy, but still, I feel overly concerned. Maybe it is because we close on our new house a week from today and will be handing over a large portion of our savings for the down payment and closing costs. We've got a renter lined up for our current home at $850/month + utilities, which covers all of our costs...so we don't even have to worry about making double payments since her lease will start on June 1st and our first mortgage payment on the new house isn't due until July 1st. But still, I worry, and spend my lunch breaks reading news articles about the failing economy and what rough shape the U.S. is in. Maybe I should start reading celebrity gossip instead?

I'm with you! I just keep telling myself that we will get through it. Maybe we'll have to cut back here and there to put gas in our cars, but hopefully the situation will adjust itself. I can't believe all of the hype about the rebate checks - I doubt they are the answer to the nation's economy problems... It will be nice to get, but it's not the cure all solution!
I can't WAIT for you to close on your new house!!!!! :) Yeah! I see lots of Saturday afternoons at the pool in Metamora (I found out that GT Hills gets to use the parks/pools too for free!)
Yes, read celebrity gossip instead!
Seriously though, it freaks me out too....especially living in crappy Detroit and working in the even crappier automotive market. I'm just glad we aren't solely automotive based, and that we have a huge customer base. However, our competitors do not, and as much as we like to beat them, it's sad to see them fall and know that people are losing jobs left and right.
I start to get a stomach ache if I think too much about it, so I try to do my part and be responsible with my spending and saving.
I get freaked out too by the economy! I keep myself grounded by saving as much as we can and spending our money smart...
We want to buy a place instead of renting, but living in the Seattle/Everett area like I do, the cost of living is ridiculous! I just want to say that my rent for a one bedroom apartment with no utilities included is $875/month... I'm more than a little depressed that the rent for your house is less than that!! I think it's clear we need to move back to the Midwest...
A little bit of anxiety is good - it keeps you vigilant. But, honestly, you really don't have that much to worry about - you are already aware of your spending habits, are saving money where you can and (I'm guessing) are living below your means.
As a side note - celebrity gossip is super fun :)
