Last night we had a pretty intense storm in central Illinois. Josh and I were out weed whacking and mowing (was that a workout!) and watched the storm roll in. Then we went inside and took showers and were watching TV when a tornado warning was issued. There were tornados on the ground in several areas and the storm was intensifying, so we headed down to the basement. We had been down there a little while when a HUGE crack of lightening knocked out our power. We stayed in the dark basement until about 9:20 when the warning was set to expire and then headed upstairs. We were in bed at 9:30. It was great to be in bed that early, but a bummer that it was hotter than the hubs of hell and no electricity meant no fans or A/C, and I had wet hair, which seemed to intensify the heat/humidity.
In contractor related news, the drywallers are supposed to finish fixing the shoddy spots today and hopefully the painter will come tomorrow. We continue to discover ‘problems’ with our house. Here’s the new things we’ve added to the list:
~The jets in the bathtub in the master bathroom don't work. They won’t turn on at all.
~The faucet in the tub in the downstairs bathroom is leaking - a steady drip.
~In the second upstairs bathroom the trim behind the toilet is damaged. When we had the inspection done before closing the inspector fixed the leak coming from the toilet, but not before it had damaged that trim piece. I think it will need to be replaced.
~A pipe on the outside of the house near the kitchen needs to have some kind of cover put over it - its definitely large enough for an animal to crawl into, which is creepy!
~The pipes going from the meters outside our house are already rusty. I think that maybe they put on some older ones or something, because they shouldn't be rusting already. I just don't want to run into problems down the road because of that.
~The board that was popped up on the deck popped up again. I think that the whole board should probably be replaced because the screw holes are stripped.
~The bathroom door on the downstairs bathroom has paint runs on it. It looks like they didn't let it dry long enough between coats or put on too heavy of a coat and it sloughed while drying. Hopefully the painter can fix that while he is at the house for the basement. We also have a few scratches (totally our fault) upstairs that I hope the painter can touch up, as well.
Our plans for the upcoming weekend include hopefully cleaning the house if the contractors have finished up, going to the Tremont Turkey Festival if the weather holds, potentially getting together with Melissa, Rob, and Justin, hopefully meeting Mr. Lincoln Adler!, hitting up the Metamora community wide garage sales, and possibly going to the DMV to change our address on our licenses. We’ll see how much of this I can fit into the time between 5 pm on Friday and 9 pm Sunday night!
