3 Trees, 2 Sunburns, and 1 Trip to Perkins

This last weekend went way too fast! On Friday after work Josh went to pick up our 3 maples from the nursery. Since we already had the spots picked out and marked, we got to digging. That’s kind of where things went downhill. Our lawn is pretty much a solid sheet of hard clay, and digging a 60 inch diameter and 18 inch deep hole is not so fun. We managed to get 1 hole dug before it was too dark to see and we couldn’t stand the mosquitoes any longer! Then we went in showered, ate dinner, and drank beer with our neighbor’s in their driveway.

On Saturday morning we got up and got right back to digging. Luckily, Rob, Melissa, and Justin came over to help us dig/plant and even brought a Crockpot of pulled pork (Josh’s favorite!) for lunch! It was so good! Poor Josh & Rob got so sunburned from being outside from 9 am – 3 pm! Even thought it was a beautiful, sunny, 80 degree day, I never even thought to put sunscreen on them – its October! Oops! After we got the trees in we headed to Jen & Dan’s for dinner. Our friend Adam was in town from Minneapolis and none of us had seen him since Christmas last year, so it was a good excuse to get together! It amazes me how fast kids grow up – it seems like every time we see Madison and Lincoln they are bigger and bigger – especially Lincoln! After we left there we headed to Sam’s for a few things we were running low on and then went to Perkins for dessert and coffee. Josh’s idea of dessert was chicken strips, and I had a sub-par cinnamon roll. I had wanted a frosted pumpkin muffin, but our waitress told me they didn’t have any. When we checked out there was a huge tray with about 2 dozen unfrosted pumpkin muffins on it, so I mentioned this to the lady behind the counter. Her Response? ‘Your waitress thought you wanted a frosted one. We frost some and don’t frost others, and we are out of the frosted ones for today.’ Hmmm, genius, you couldn’t have frosted an unfrosted one? Maybe that’s why she works the graveyard at Perkins….whatever.

On Sunday we got up and hung out, watched TV and were just generally lazy. Later we motivated, and cleaned the whole house and did laundry. Then we hung out some more and got ready for another week of work.

Our new storm door gets delivered today, so we’ll probably start getting that ready to put up tonight and work on it the rest of the week. This weekend we are putting landscaping blocks and rocks around the trees and getting ready for our Disney vacation (only 10 more days!). We are so exciting…
