Its my third day on the job, and things are okay. By okay, I mean not terrible, but not terribly fantastic either. Everybody is really nice, but so far, I'm bored out of my mind - I know, I know, thats how it'd be anywhere, at least the first week. Yesterday was my first day at Cat Logistics (Monday was spent at the Mid Illinios Regional Center, MIRC, for training). So, I meet with my supervisors supervisor first thing, and she tells me flat out that 1. there is no overtime pay in my department 2. it is very highly encouraged to be here early and stay late, in addition to working through lunch, since everybody does these things and it is the only way to keep up here, and 3. my job (which is different than the one I accepted!!!) requires me to travel 25-30% of the time. Much of this time will be over weekends - which I will not be paid for, and will not be given comp time for either. I should view this as an opportunity to see new places.
Now, I do not mind working a bit of overtime or traveling, even if its over a weekend...IF I'M BEING PAID FOR IT. As far as I am concerned, the salary I accepted was satisfactory ONLY to compensate me for 40 hours per week, 49 weeks a year, not 50-60 hours per week. Maybe the other people in this department don't have massive student loans, or car or house payments. Maybe THEY won the freakin lottery. I DIDNT. And I have a life, thank you very much.
I spent all night last night crying. It'll get better - it has too.

Ummm, I wish I had some good advice here...but I've got nothin'. Maybe your supervisor will be a little more lenient. Technically, my company has the same rules, but my boss is very good about comp time. And if not, take advantage of the travel. It could be fun. Can Josh travel with you?
All companies bite unless you work for yourself. That is what I've learned.
