For months (some a few years) I've been having unexplained medical issues, non of which I ever supposed were related. Some of these I chalked up to my body being freakish and others to changes in the weather, seasonal changes, the move, school, work, stress, whatever. Some of the 'issues' that I made non-issues by ignoring are the constant tiredness and the odd headaches that felt crampy and 'cold' behind my eyes, overall generaly feelings of being 'run down', difficulty losing weight, insanely dry skin, constipation, short depressive stinks, and abnormal menstrual bleeding. And the last few winters I have had a really hard time staying warm or tolerating the cold.
Well, I finally had blood work done because I couldn't tolerate the abnormal bleeding anymore. One of the tests I had done was a TSH - Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. Normal levels range between 0.3 and 5.0. My levels came back at 34.51 which is astronomical, off the charts high. What does it mean? I have Hypothyroidism. Which, simply put, means my thyroid is busted, for the rest of my life, and I have to take synthetic hormones every day, forever. It also means that I am not crazy and that every single weird 'issue' that I was having should clear up once we get my doseage right. HURRAY!

Whoa, that's crazy! I'm so glad you found out what the problem was. And good for you for keeping a good attitude about it. Yeah, you'll have to take hormones every day, but at least you won't have to experience those symptoms.
My gradparents both had issues, one had hypo-thyroidism and one had hyper-thyroidism. But none of their children inherited either.
Yay for no more issues!
Wow! I know what you mean about ignoring symptoms because you are so young. I'm really glad you found out what it was. I always think it is better to know than not to, so you can do something about it. My uncle has an over active thyroid and takes medication for it. I'm not sure if he still does. I was tested for TSH as well, but the results came back normal. I have some premature grey hair and was worried about it. I hope you feel better soon! Keep us updated.
Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but at least you have an answer to your symptoms and can manage it forward. Positive thoughts heading your way.
Hi Katie! Drop me an email so we can try to get together soon!
