Wedding Drama....Already!?

It appears as if my dream wedding may be turning to dust. It doesnt look like Josh family is going to be cool with this whole cruise idea after all, but I dont know that for sure just yet. His parents want us to be married in the Grand Rapids area so his whole family can attend. I say, why is this fair....then my family has to travel and THEY wont all be able to come. Plus, its tradition to be married in the BRIDES home town, not the grooms. So, if I can't have my wedding on a cruise, then it should be in the UP. Yeah, it sucks that somebodys family is going to have to travel either way...but by going on the cruise, then everybody has to travel, so its okay. Also, a wedding in either of our hometowns is going to be enormous...and my worst nightmare. I DO NOT WANT TO PLAN OR HAVE A BIG WEDDING. Also, Josh and I simply can't afford to pay for one, so perhaps we'll be able to get married by 2010. Apparently, the fact that it is OUR wedding has little to do with what we want. It makes me sad, because its supposed to be about US, and already its turning into a fiasco. If the cruise idea doesnt work out, we will seriously have to put the wedding off for a few years, which isnt fair, but there is nothing we will be able to do about that. Maybe we'll just run off to Vegas alone - now THAT would piss people off!

If they insist that the wedding needs to be in Grand Rapids, then they need to help pay for it, if they are not willing to do that then they can't have an opinion, easy as that!

I agree! It's your wedding, not theirs. You should be able to do whatever you want.

If you are paying - then you get to do what you want. Maybe they would like to have a party to celebrate your wedding after you get back from the cruise. They can pay for it, and plan it, and you can just show up.

It's YOUR wedding! Just keep that in mind...
